Peak normalization vs LUFS

Peak normalization shifts the loudest sample. Two tracks with the same peak can still feel unequally loud – dynamics and spectrum matter.

LUFS measures perceived loudness across the file. Streaming services and broadcast use the same unit, so prepared uploads and libraries stay more consistent.

What classic MP3 tools often miss

Many tutorials stop at MP3Gain or an editor’s “Normalize”. That can work for simple MP3 playlists. As soon as you need targets like -14 LUFS (Spotify/YouTube) or -18 LUFS (podcasts) – or FLAC/WAV in the same folder – you need a different workflow.
