Why “just turn it up” is not enough

Many guides still talk about dB or peak normalization. That moves peaks – it does not reliably describe how loud a track feels overall.

Streaming and podcasts use perceived loudness (LUFS). If you prepare folders for Spotify, podcasts, or mixed libraries, you need the same scale – not only “everything to 89 dB”.

Where classic MP3Gain-style tools stop

MP3Gain and similar freeware helped for pure MP3 ReplayGain workflows. Today many users hit limits: no modern LUFS targets, little FLAC/WAV in one run, and rarely a clear before/after report.

If you mix MP3, FLAC and WAV – or deliberately aim for -14 / -18 / -23 LUFS – a LUFS workflow fits better.
